Snap snap twirl people! It has been an event filled 2016 and the year has only just started. Now we have all calmed down (cough, cough…Beyonce’s Formation) I think it is ok to mention a few of those bright stars who have already OWNED 2016, by that I mean the game changers who need to do nothing more than paint their nails for the rest of the year, as they have already made their mark.
The internet breaker: Beyonce of course. The day before Beyonce took to the stage for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, she dropped her new single “Formation”. Her release has had everyone and their uncle talking about why she should and shouldn’t have done the video and song (just Google if you want to know why).
I for one love the track and I’m pretty sure she is losing no sleep over those who don’t “I twirl on them haters”. Beyonce has long been a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and am happy to see she is now using her art and platform to preach to the unconverted. Oh…and she carries hot sauce in her purse #win.
The hashtag: Have you seen Ugandan-born model Aamito Lagum’s lips? They are without doubt the most deliciously luscious, heart shaped examples of perfection we have ever seen. Unfortunately, a photograph of her lips (posted by Mac Cosmetics for a New York Fashion Week show) was subject to a number of hateful and bigoted comments from internet trolls. Well, the model responded by posting about the incident on social media with the caption: “My lips giving you sleepless nights” she then thanked Mac for the lipstick colour and said she would be buying three of them. She then encouraged her 17,600 followers to take a picture of their lips with the hashtag: “#PrettyLipsPeriod”. A clear case of #sorrynotsorry.
The cover star: Ashley Graham is hot AF, so why the hell wouldn’t she be featured on the front cover of Sports Illustrated? The size 14 model can hardly be called plus size, but she is the first model of her size to be featured on the magazine’s cover – it’s 2016 after all. Cue the trolls! Well, Graham continues to shut down haters and has posted a video of her working out on social media saying: “I am strong. I am powerful. I am bold. My body is capable to do more than I think I can. I will always push myself to greater heights. I respect the skin I am in. I workout because I love my body, not because I hate it.”
