Valentine’s Day: Navigating Style in Cold Weather

Valentine's Day Fashion

As the season of love beckons us to drape ourselves in romantic ensembles, outfits that refuse to acknowledge the chill in the air, the question arises – how do you dress for Valentine’s or Galentine’s Day in the cold?

Most of us are swept away with visions of opulent reds with an exposed décolletage or charming prints that caress the curves and expose just enough leg –  but when you live in the UK, the art of dressing for this celebration becomes an intricate dance between warmth and style.

‘This Valentine’s Day, the challenge is to create ensembles that not only radiate passion and confidence but also provide a sense of comfort in the winter chill.’

So we find ourselves in a quandary –  navigating a wardrobe choice that balances the cosy allure of boots and thicker materials with the desire for an effortlessly chic or sexy aesthetic. The truth is being sexy and warm can and should be achieved. Here’s how to do it right (you can thank us later)…

Separates are the key

Frosty evenings and the need for layers that seamlessly transition to intimate dinners or vibrant Galentine’s gatherings – well, they go hand in hand this month. Layering is the answer. Yes, you want to wear that barely-there dress, but the only way you can is with a few added layers (that is, if you want to make it to the venue before your skin turns blue). Have at least two layers over that dress – chiffon or lace is an option, albeit not always a good insulator – but it may just be enough under your outer coat. If not, a blazer may be the answer. Cropped or oversized, thrown over your dress it will shield you from the cold. Add an overcoat over the whole thing, and you have a chic outfit for an evening out with your partner or with the gals – with the option to don or discard a layer depending on the temperature.

There’s Romance (and warmth) in Red:

Use red to your advantage – it doesn’t need to be head to toe – in fact, a red shoe, boot or accessory could be just enough of a nod to the day of love for your finished look. Let your accessories do the talking and keep your legs and décolletage safe from the winter chill; you can always take a layer off when you both get home! Red is the colour of love, and the most appropriate choice for the occasion, what’s more it can be made even more impactful with a bold red lip – they won’t even notice that your are all covered up!
