Behind the Scenes: Team Breakfast at Balans, Westfield

Balans note

While some parts of the UK were making the difficult commute to work, I was marvelling over the breakfast menu at the newly revamped Balans Soho Society, Shepherds Bush. Deciding on the multiple menu options wasn’t easy and I couldn’t help but notice the slogan ‘Let Us Break Our Fast in the finest possible way. Living well is the best revenge’  Hmmm, I’d have to agree. By Lorraine Brown

Brekkie really is my favourite meal of the day. I’m not sure how some people manage to start the day without it. I’m sure those of you who fall into that category are tired of hearing why it’s so important, but Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast – that’s where its name originates from, breaking the fast…Ok, lesson over.

For me, starting the day without breakfast means that I am effectively running on empty, it’s like trying to start the car with no petrol…there is nothing to give. Satisfying that morning hunger pang is especially great if:

1) I’m not preparing it
2) It’s brought to me in bed
3) It’s served in a restaurant that knows how to cater to early morning tastebuds

Balans hit the spot in so many way and turned out to be a great choice for a quick (well, not that quick) mini team catch up for StyleAble.

It all looked good,  but ‘The Soho Full English’ and ‘The High Society Eggs Benedict’ took our fancy – A good ol’ traditional  and a classy choice, how could we go wrong?

Our full English had 2 eggs (done any way), bacon, Cumberland sausage, field mushroom, tomatoes, balans potatoes and toast. The eggs Benedict on the other hand had poached eggs, lobster, avocado, bacon, Hollandaise and of course an English muffin.  Lobster for breakfast? Yes please. Add to this a hot chocolate or a cup of tea in the cutest cups ever and you are heading towards perfection in anyone’s books I would say.

This is the kind of breakfast you need before going on a long shopping trip, cleaning your house, or climbing a mountain. In short, this is all you need to start a busy day.

Now, is it ever too early for doughnut balls? We say no. These sugar covered globes of deliciousness came with compote and cream. They were served warm – a perfect end to a very indulgent morning.

Balans…we will be back.
