Best Restaurants in Auckland

Food befitting of the largest city in New Zealand, Auckland has some of the biggest name restaurants in the Southern Hemisphere. Combining modern architecture with fusions of European, Asian and traditional Maori cuisine, the City of Sails offers a truly unique culinary experience. So if you’re planning on heading the Kiwi capital anytime soon, we’ve run down a list of the finest places to dine out to help you on your way.

Sugar Club

Now in its fourth location, the Sugar Club sits 328 metres above the Auckland skyline. With staggering views across the city, the food is as equally to die for. Using the best seasonal New Zealand produce, combined with exotic global flavours, dishes such as the ‘Prawn and Panko-Crusted Hapuka’ are a must try. Based in the incredible Sky City, the glamour doesn’t stop there.

One Tree Grill

Located by the famous One Tree Hill, this modern restaurant offers a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of city centre dining. Opened in 1996, the restaurant incorporates the finest cuts of succulent local meat to create truly mouth-watering dishes. With a renowned wine list to boot, a visit to One Tree Grill is the perfect way to relax and enjoy an evening of award-winning food.

The Grove

Opened little under ten years ago, The Grove has quickly made its mark as one of New Zealand’s most popular eateries. With a warm and comforting décor, the dinner service is an explosion of hearty flavours. Revered across the country, the restaurant excels mainly in its fish dishes; accompanied by an impressive cocktail menu that reflects the venues stylish reputation.

Vinnies

With a name more suited to a café tucked away in the East-end of London, Vinnies certainly has the wow factor. Brought to you by Geoff Scott, the restaurant is famed for fusing respected French cooking techniques with classic New Zealand ingredients and combinations. Having completed his apprenticeship under acclaimed chefs Albert Roux and Alain Ducasse, Scott has certainly learnt his craft and the seven course tasting menu is a must for those wanting to sample all the best local Kiwi dishes the city has to offer.

Prego

Bringing al fresco Italian dining to Auckland, pizza and pasta dominate Prego’s rather quaint menu, but non-the-less the food is exquisite. Also offering a host of expertly cooked meat, the roast duck is incredible- whilst you won’t go far wrong with the calamari to start- a dish Prego pride themselves on. For authentic European flavour and flair then this restaurant will certainly satisfy those particular desires; bringing the heart of Italy to the very centre of the sail city.
