Waist Training: All you need to know…

If you were thinking of jumping on the waist training bandwagon, there are a few things you need to consider before you rush out and buy a corset. For those of you who blinked and missed this most recent fad, waist training is…

(Wearing a corset and gradually reducing the size over a long period of time. The intention being to achieve a smaller waist with/without the corset on).

This may seem a little extreme, but waist training is becoming more and more popular. There appears to be two camps when it comes to the opinions spouted about the waist training technique. There are those who love it and have even gone as far as to post Youtube progress and instructional videos on the subject…

Then there are those (quite often scaremongering journos) who would have you believe that waist training will automatically lead to the squishing and disintegration of your internal organs – not to mention the fact that you are both anti-feminist and must hate yourself.

Not one to judge, similarly I will never argue an extreme position just to get traffic and comments (FYI, both would be good). Instead, I will sit somewhere in the middle and outline both the pros and cons of waist training, with a couple of suggestions for those who want to fit into that LBD every now and again.

Pros

  • Wearing a corset instantly reduces the waistline for those who want a quick fix. Waist training (when using the right corsets) can also reduce the size of the waist permanently over time
  • The pressure put on the abdomen can in some cases encourage the wearer to  consume less food (for those who over eat), the corset helps you to feel full faster
  • Waist training is a non-invasive, non-surgical way of modifying your body shape

Cons

  • Waist training can cause bruising to the skin and if too tight even the liver, spleen and kidneys could get bruised
  • Corsets laced too tightly can reduce circulation  in the abdomen area and cause shortness of breath
  • Corsets can be EXTREMELY uncomfortable to wear, especially when worn for long periods of time
  • Corsets can be extremely difficult to put on and take off (you could require assistance)
  • Waist training could permanently change a person’s bone structure since it compresses the rib cage
  • Restricting oxygenation of the body could do long-term damage to your metabolism and health

For those who feel that waist training is not for them, here are a couple of options to give you an hour glass shape for the Christmas party:

Thanks great article. I don’t know how anyone can spend hours in a corset, their bodies must look awful underneath. I can’t get through an evening in one. :-O

No no no! There is a reason why we all stopped tieing ourselves into corsets. Lets no go back there.
