Overnight at the Athenaeum, London

Did you see it? Well, you couldn’t really miss it.

It’s no surprise that the King’s Coronation took London – and the world – by storm. There’s one thing us Brits do well and that’s pomp and ceremony. Clearly, no budget was spared and hats off to them…it was quite the show.

Sure, there were mixed reviews (lots of them) but whether you loved it, hated it or you were completely indifferent – the Coronation was spectacular AF and for some of us it was a reminder of just how grand our capital city can be.

So, what do we do now it is all over? Well, for those of you who hid from the crowds – you can now make your way back to ‘town’ for the brunches, window shopping, expensive coffee and hotel stays that none of us can really afford (…but we do it anyway).

With the sun fighting – and losing – to peak through the rain and clouds, you’re probably as desperate for a break as we are. If you don’t have the funds for a weekend in Paris let alone a trip to Phuket, there may be something for you a little closer to home

…in Piccadilly.

THE ATHENAEUM HOTEL, PICCADILLY

We recently had the chance to stay overnight at the Athenaeum – it’s a modern and stylish hotel with a stunning lounge, glam dining room, bright and airy rooms and fantastic views. If it’s scenery, shopping and champagne you fancy this place is a real gem. The customer service is great and the boutique hotel vibe is just what you need for a short break. Oh, and it’s located opposite Green Park!

Look, the best thing about The Athenaeum is the location. Wanna be a tourist in London? It’s a short walk from Burlington Arcade the Royal Academy of Arts, The Ritz, The Wolseley, Fortnum and Mason and of course…so much shopping. Even better, it’s literally a stones throw from Green Park so it’a good choice if you want to bring the kids.

Oh yes, the food is top notch…

With a wide ranging menu, there is lots to choose from for dinner – including a 3 course set menu for £33. There’s a buffet option for breakfast and a cooked selection, which includes a vegan option. Intrigued? You can save money by booking overnight with Buy a Gift, that’s an overnight stay for 2 (with a 3 course dinner and breakfast) at just £385.  Want to know what to do when you get there? Check out our upcoming post.

Is the Athenaeum accessible?

Of course, we couldn’t review this hotel without touching on the accessibility. Most of the amenities at The Athenaeum are on one level (ground floor) – that includes the reception area, dining room and bar. For access to the spa, there is a lift that takes you to the spa reception from every floor. You need a card to access the floors, so the rooms feel safe and yes, the Athenaeum is kiddy / family friendly!
