Editors Blog: I am no longer goal setting in 2023.

The majority of us are dealing with PTSD…are we even out of the woods yet?

Anyway, I have officially left the whole goal setting, work mad thing behind. The only goals I have are to make things easier for myself and the people around me (where possible). That’s it. More enjoyment, less stress and less trying to attain goals that involve working through the night and substituting sleep for caffeine.

Who’s with me? *stands up and raises fist dramatically*

So please, no more New Year’s Resolutions: “I’m coming back harder in 2023!” , “Hitting more goals than ever before!”, “Stronger, harder, bolder!”… What’s that? You are goal setting for the entire year? Good for you. Stick the kettle on while you’re there.

Look, I am not saying we can all afford to down tools – not many have us have that privilege. But I am 100% dumping all of the motivational work videos, the endless cups of coffee, the 5am starts, the choosing work over fun – hey, I waved goodbye to that in 2020. I’m simply blowing it a kiss from 2023.

My goals involve drinking tea, being overdressed, dining out and watching romcoms

I have to be honest and say I was glamourising and romanticising labour in the weirdest way – it was…forced. I was compensating and trying to prove something to someone, not sure who.

The truth is, I like my work BUT I also like to see my friends and family. I like to sit and drink tea and watch rubbish romcoms. I will no longer choose work over all of those other things – because when I was forced to stop and look at what was really important, it was NOT spending more time working. So, I have stopped planning – other than what I am required to plan by my clients as a freelancer.

I work, rest and play…but not in that order.

That’s it. That’s all.
