Women pouting

I didn’t realise that this was an ‘issue’ until the other day. It had never even crossed my mind, which says more about my love of all things edible than anything else. Not until whilst out shopping,  a friend of mine told me that she would forego the coffee I had just offered to buy her, because she didn’t want to mess with her perfectly applied lipstick, lip liner and gloss.

Don’t get me wrong, I think my friends are brilliant – but I did find her reaction a tad odd. Surely, the smell and taste of freshly made coffee wins out over lipstick – which of course can be reapplied. Also, it all sounds like a bit of a slippery slope to me. I mean, where do you draw the line? Giving up showering because you don’t want to mess up your hair? Giving up walking because you don’t want to ruin your shoes? How about you leave that coat behind…it is raining after all.

Weird.

I say all this, but it reminds me of the time I didn’t want to swim because the chlorine from the pool would damage my natural hair (the swimming hat just didn’t work on a large afro puff). I spent many swim sessions sitting on the sidelines while my friends splashed about. Yes, my hair stayed intact, but to this day I still have a slight aversion to swimming pools despite cutting my hair off anyway.

It comes down to priorities I suppose. What are we all missing out on because we have decided to prioritise other things, things that we may see as frivolous and a waste of time further on down the line.

Comment below and let me know what you think.
