It takes a lot for me to haul myself out on a Monday night, but after a glimpse at the website and a look at the fancy menu I made an exception. The stunning Cannizaro House Hotel is set on the outskirts of Wimbledon Common and boasts an ‘award winning restaurant’. A decadent Monday night treat indeed! By Sara Levy

Cannizaro House Restaurant

Décor & Ambience

The restaurant itself is situated in the formal dining room, quite different from the bar and main hotel which has a contemporary art collection and distinctly modern feel. The glass conservatory allowed us to look out onto beautifully manicured flower gardens enhancing the serenity of the setting.

I began to unwind, especially upon hearing my four favorite words, “champagne for you madam?” So far so good, the décor; classic, sophisticated and formal, hinting at chic, fine dining. We were eagerly anticipating that the food would echo this.

All the food is beautifully presented and the menu well structured. To my delight, each course is followed by a well thought out pallet cleanser… very fancy!

Hot on the heels of a tasty leek soup starter was my main course, polenta. The vegetarian option in restaurants can be quite limited, and sadly Cannizaro House was no exception. Although the plate looked like a work of art, the meal of polenta and peppers left me rather uninspired. Cannizaro seems so top notch in every respect that I thought it would be worth the gamble.

The desert selection on the other hand is incredible! The chocolate torte was divine, incredibly rich but very tasty. The service is impeccable. Our every whim was catered for and there seemed to always be someone near by if we were to need anything.

Accessibility

The restaurant is very accessible and is all on one level including the restrooms with easy access in and out of the dining room and into the bar.

Cannizaro House, with its relaxed surroundings and fine food is definitely worth a visit, however the sophisticated atmosphere feels better suited to a leisurely afternoon tea, cocktails with friends or a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. It definitely has the style but also the prices to match.

Do you have any offers on special meal deals, for 8/10 people?
